Exhibition “UnSeen” – Artistic research as memory work?

From December 5, 2025, to January 6, 2026, the Department of Art Education/Didactics at the University of Potsdam, in close cooperation with the Förderkreis Alter Leipziger Bahnhof and under the curatorial direction of Drin. phil. Antje Winkler, will present the exhibition “UnSeen.” The exhibition will feature artistic works by students at the University of Potsdam who, as part of seminars since 2024, have been conducting research on the Alter Leipziger Bahnhof in Dresden—a site of Nazi deportations. In addition, there are artistic works by students from the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, who also dealt with the November pogrom in Senftenberg in 1938 and racist murders in Brandenburg in the FRG in the 1990s in seminars on “Culture of Remembrance and Art” in primary education and in the field of social work. “UnSeen” sees itself as an artistic research project and an open forum for dialogue, reflection, and artistic-aesthetic education – in a place that challenges questions and focuses on artistic-aesthetic thinking and action for a pluralistic and contemporary culture of remembrance. A central question is how artistic research can contribute to aesthetic education, historical reflection, and a pluralistic and contemporary culture of remembrance, while at the same time making the invisible visible and opening up new perspectives and approaches to perpetration, memory, and the present.
